Template Synthesis of a Macrocyclic Ligand

The procedure for this synthesis is exactly that given in Chipperfield and Woodward's article.¹ Prepare and characterize the nickel macrocycle, and then remove the metal to give the free ligand (characterize it also).  From the free ligand prepare a different metal complex (your choice) and characterize it.
