Basic Instructions for the Use of the Milton Roy Spectronic 3000 Diode Array Spectrometer |
Emphasis on the word BASIC. You will find that there are other modes of operation,
but this should get you started. Talk to an experienced user to learn more.
Instrument Setup and data Collection:

Saving Spectra:
- Select Save
- Enter a filename (8 characters maximum). Other fields are optional.
- Press ESC to complete the process (I know this seems strange, but your file will really be saved).
Measuring Absorbance at a Given Wavelength:
- Collect a spectrum.
- With the spectrum displayed on the screen, select Measure.
- Select Wavelengths/Times, a list of wavelengths and their associate absorbance will be displayed at the bottom of the screen.
- In this list, enter the desired wavelength(s) and record the corresponding absorbance.
- Press ESC to go back to the previous display.
Overlaying Spectra on the Screen (requires spectra to have been previously saved):
- Collect a spectrum.
- Select Display.
- Select Overlaid.
- Select Directory, from the resulting list of files, use the arrow keys and Page Up and Page Down keys to scroll through the list of files, press Enter to select a file.
Printing (all currently displayed spectra will be printed, single spectra, overlaid, etc.):
- Be sure the printer is on and on-line.
- Select Print.
- Select Printer.
